Abstract

The study investigated influence of work environment on job performance of public secondary school teachers in Ibadan metropolis. Three research questions were raised and answered, and two hypotheses were formulated and tested to guide the study at 0.05 level of significance. The study used descriptive research design. A sample size of 1629 teachers was utilised for the study. The research instrument for the study was questionnaire titled: Teachers' Work Environment and Job Performance Questionnaire (TWEJPQ). The instrument was subjected to face and content validity; Cronbach Alpha reliability of 0.87 as obtained. The collected data were analysed using frequency count, mean and percentage and correlation analysis. The result using descriptive statistics revealed that weighted mean score for work environment was moderate (x= 2.23), (x= 2.70) and (x=2.29) respectively. The correlation analysis showed main influence of independent variable work environment (p<0.05) on the dependent variable teachers' job performance. In conclusion, work environment had significant influence of teachers' job performance. Therefore, it is recommended that stakeholders in educational sector in Ibadan metropolis need to ensure that teachers' work environment is improved for high level of job performance.
