CONTRIBUTING FACTORS TO STUDENTS' REGISTRATION INTO BUSINESS EDUCATION DEGREE PROGRAMMES IN RIVERS STATE

Abstract

The study investigated the contributing factors to students' registration into Business Education degree programmes in Rivers State. The study employed the correlational research design. The population of the study comprised one thousand and two hundred (1,200) respondents, while the sample size of study comprised three hundred and sixty (360) Business Education undergraduate students selected from Rivers State University and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. A simple random technique was adopted. A structured research instrument titled Contributing factors of Students' Registration into Business Education Degree Programmes Questionnaire were used for data collection in the study. The data collected were analyzed using statistical tools such as the mean, standard deviation and the Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The findings revealed that there a significant relationship between counseling services in Business Education and parental background influence in Business Education and students' registration into Business Education degree programmes in Rivers State. Sequel to these findings, it was recommended that government should provide functioning counseling services in high institutions of learning in Rivers State while that Business Education teachers should be trained and retrained through seminars and conferences and parents should be encouraged on how to educate their children on issues of choosing the course of studies.
