Abstract

Ancient Yoruba people used folklore and music to teach morals and also to promote value systems among the people in the olden time. The moral decadence and poor “Qmoluabi ” ethos as observed are traceable to inadequate access to indigenous stories and music by the youths due to westernization. The study investigated the students' attitude towards the use of Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in teaching Yoruba folklore, music and dance. It also determined the students' perception of the virtual learning environment. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. Sixty students in the Yoruba Language Department participated in the study. Perception and Attitude towards Application of VLE for Teaching Questionnaire (PAVLEQ) was used for data gathering. The instrument was validated as appropriate. Results showed that the students' attitude towards the use of VLE in the teaching of Yoruba folklore, music and dance was very good with 75.39% of the respondents. Likewise, the students' perception of effectiveness of the application of VLE was also very good (74.55%>). The study concluded that the students had right attitude towards the teaching of Yoruba folklore, music and dance using VLE. Also,that the students perceived that using VLE for teaching Yoruba folklore, music and dance is effective
